The first and only 5k to utilize the former Seaway Drive for for a community run or walk. This fast flat track takes on a paperclip formation and gives participants a full view of the downtown Muskegon developments. In 2008, the first year, Seaway Drive was still four lanes of traffic in one way directions. Now known as Muskegon Avenue and Webster Avenue, you can view parks and statues, grand old architecture from the famous Lumber Baron era, as well a brand new sculptures and buildings that weren't even built when the Hey 5k made it's 2008 debut.
The season for this race is perfectly dove-tailing Hey Radio's annual run with the Unity Christian Music Festival that starts on the prior Wednesday and runs through Saturday night. Unity brings 10s of thousands of visitors to Muskegon for a day or for the week. The Hey 5k allows the folks coming into town to add one more family fun thing to their Muskegon experience.
