About Us
Broadcasting along the lake shore in Muskegon county, Hey Radio was created to supply the younger Muskegon population with the finest (and cleanest) music available from fresh new artists. No cussin', no sexual innuendo, no songs about hurting yourself or others. Instead, you'll hear the coolest Rock, Rap, and even Screamo! And the lyrics are all screened and cleaned! This station plays programming that will lift the spirits and encourage every listener.
The design of Hey Radio began in the conceptual stages on September 29th, 2003. After exploring the broadcasting terrain, assessing available assets, and with much prayer support, the process began. The license for 88.9 was applied for. It was the only frequency available in the entire county. The tower, a 140 foot tall, a 40 year old, self-supported PiRod tower, was donated by the Ottawa County Road Commission. With all volunteer labor, torches, wrenches, and a crane, the tower was gently taken down from the Zeeland location and moved to Muskegon in seven 20 foot sections. After rust-proofing and painting, the tower was reassembled on the ground and with the help of another crane, it went up in 2006. FCC license authorization was granted in the fall of 2008 and we went live in November of that year.
In 2012 a renewal process was necessary for all television and radio stations in the country. Once again, we went through the rigors of applying for the renewal, this time while live and on the air. So, it was required that we broadcast disclaimers and public notices both pre and post-filing that would let the public know our intentions to renew our license and give anyone the opportunity to contest our right to broadcast. Thankfully, no one did contest our renewal and on October 1st, 2012 we were granted the authorization to broadcast for another 8 years.
We're committed to spreading the gospel by means of terrestrial FM broadcast radio as well as streaming online radio at www.heyradio.com and we welcome your support in prayer, by volunteering, and by sharing in your discretionary finances.
Every month there are ongoing expenses such as utilities, internet charges, and such. And then, every year there are fees for renewing our other artist representative’s licenses; ASCAP, SESAC, Sound Exchange, and BMI. As well as annual insurance premiums for the tower and equipment used in the infrastructure.
Please pray for our station and the people who listen. We seek to glorify God and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ here in Muskegon and surrounding cities as well as globally around the world.
